I apologize, I had the part number wrong. The new one from Electrochem is BCX85-3B50. I had written BCX82, but was off. The BCX72 is the older version of that battery.. but if they both measure at 3.9v, you should have battery power on the board. Is that what you meant when you said "both are on 3,9V."?
It is possible that the RAM onboard was corrupted somehow, but to remove all of the characters from the screen you can hold down the "Code" key, and press "Delete" (both on left side of keyboard). That should remove the random characters on the screen. Also, if the system isn't having any issues keeping the encryption strings stored you should be fine with the batteries... I assumed that since you had those strange characters on your screen the batteries were dead and would need to be replaced.
As for the foam, you do not need it for the system to operate. I think the original idea was to keep the air flow in the system tight against the boards, but the foam turns to mush after so much time and humidity. I have sold many systems without the foam over the boards on the top card cage and have not had any issues.
Concerning the power the system uses 1.2 kWatts continuous, 1.5 kWatts fluctuating. It depends on what tasks its performing at the time, as well as what peripherals you have attached to it. We sell the 2000 watt transformer with it for safety reasons.
