Topic: Acuson 128XP/IO – Power Supply Failure

I have some problems with Acuson 128XP/IO machine – Power Supply Failure. I checked all power supplies – o.k
I do not have a Service Manual. I would be very grateful if you are able to send me the service manual for this machine asap.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Acuson 128XP/IO – Power Supply Failure

Unfortunately I do not have a service manual for the 128XP/10. However, I do have 8 years of experience working with and troubleshooting this particular system. If you let me know what the issues are, I can help you to troubleshoot and fix these issues.

I do have some technical drawings that I've collected over the years that I can upload and post on these forums in a new area. Once I have it set up I will post a link to it in this reply, it will also be a 'sticky' topic in the main 128XP/10 forum.

Re: Acuson 128XP/IO – Power Supply Failure

Hi Todd,

Thanks for your reply.

I found some explanation concerning error message - Power Supply Failure.

It should be an error message which appears during the power-up. In my case, sometimes the machine stars normally, but the error appears during the work. After RESET it has happened several times the error message disappears and the machine starts working. In the last time the machine is not able to initialize and the power-up stops with the error message.

The explanation is: "PPS did not respond to programming commands. Check PPS and DBR and interconnecting cables."

Next days I'm going to fulfil the recomendations.

In case you have any idea, I would be very grateful if you share it with me.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Stoyan

Re: Acuson 128XP/IO – Power Supply Failure

Hi Todd,

I'd like to infom you that I checked the PPS after mounting it on the other machine. The same error appeares. So, PPS is faulty for sure.

Actually, the power supply from PPS (+150 VDC) is stable. But the status information from PPS to DBR is probably not correct. When the mashine is in working condition the status bits are 1001 as follows:

            J8/DBR   J4/PPS
S0 - 1 - pin 10 - pin 8
S1 - 0 - pin 13 - pin 9
S2 - 0 - pin 09 - pin 1
S3 - 1 - pin 14 - pin 6

For some reason S0 changes during the work to 0. So, if status bits are 0001 the error message appeares, because the back status information, expected by the Scanner, is not correct.

I checked the optocouplers HCPL-2730 (measured on the board) - should be o.k. Status information comes to optocouplers from ADC0804 (U10).

A poti R41 and some test points are available on PPS, but I don't know what could be adjusted and where to measure.

I kindly ask you, if you have some drawings for PPS, more information about function description, repair and adjust of PPS, please, send me some hints.

I sent an inquiry to UDS concerning available PPS P/N 16817, but still don't have any answer.

I'm looking forward to your answer.

Re: Acuson 128XP/IO – Power Supply Failure

Stoyan,

I don't delve too deeply in board repair, since we moved a large number of the 128XP10's a few years back I just have a lot of parts for it. So when a field replaceable unit breaks down, I replace it.

My associate Richard said he sent an email yesterday with a price quote and availability. Please let me know if you received the email.

When I have some time today I will upload the power flow charts that I have for the 128XP10, sorry again for the delay.
