Topic: Acuson 128 C/f help!

Hello:

I hope you can offer some help!

Working in the research field, I tend to get the "leftover" equipment from the clinics. I have a very old 128 C/f ultrasound machine which freezes whenever I select color doppler. The pulse wave (PW), continuous wave (CW), and M-mode functions are all OK, just not the color doppler. It was working ~6 months ago. Have tried 3 different probes. When the screen freezes, the time continues to tick over. Pressing buttons after freeze has no effect (ie. requires restart). Validation codes are all OK. The Error Log, which is rather limited, provides no information on source of problem. Could this be a simple problem such as power supply to color doppler board? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Marcus

Marcus,

Try to access On-Board Diagnostics - if you can get in, try running the PM test. It will take a while, but it should narrow down the search for which board is failing.

However, if I had to guess I'd say the FEC/FEB boards are having issues.

Hi Todd:

Thanks for your help. I actaully read the PM test after I posted my question yesterday. I can type in the three lines, but it never proceeds to the next screen to type in "PM". I waited for 2 minutes. As my machine is the 128 C/f (older than the 128XP) it may not have the correct chipset (?). I can pull the board and look for the chipset, but would need to know which board.

Without the correct chipset, is it possible to run the PM?

Re: Acuson 128 C/f help!

Ah.. well if you've tried then chances are it doesn't have the 4 OCWARE chips required to run the diagnostics.

Next step would be to troubleshoot using some spare parts. Or... you could try reseating a few boards and connections... maybe there's a cold joint somewhere?

If you do some digging on the forums there will be a post that shows how to access the scan converter card cage.. I should probably just make a few sticky'd topics that highlight all the disassembly/reassembly.
