Topic: AEGIS, DICOM, and Networking Configurations

EDIT: basically i haven't had much time to add information on this, so i'm just going to paste what i've written up in the past.

Code + V + Test takes you to the CSR menu, where you can enter DICOM/Networking
information. You will have to scroll down using the trackball, till you reach
a second page, with 3 options.

Go to:
AEGIS Configuration:
        Enable: Networked
Machine Name: Aspen AE title (used in Network Configuration)
Machine IP: defined by network technician (used in Network Configuration)

Don’t bother with the rest of the information, it is not necessary unless you want to define where the images are being sent. (folder/subfolder)

Press Exit to save information.

Code + V + Test to return you to the CSR menu.

Go to:
DICOM Configuration:
Remote Servers: (should be selected first)
Server Name: DICOM server AE title
Host IP Address: DICOM server IP address
        TCP Port: Network Port #
Server Called AE: DICOM server AE title

Press the "Add" soft key, and the "Save" soft key. Configuration will save.

If installing a printer:
Mouse over "Printers", and use a soft key (near trackball) to select.
    Printer:
        Printer Name: network printer
Host IP Address: network printer host IP
        TCP Port: network port #
Server Called AE: network printer name/AE title
Printer Type: select type (other, agfa, etc)
        Edit Formats: setup 3x3, 1x1, 2x1, etc

Press the "Add" soft key, and the "Save" soft key. Configuration will save.

TURN SYSTEM OFF AFTER YOU PRESS “IMAGE”. Reboot after 10-15 seconds.

After Boot up:
Code + V + Test will return you to the CSR menu.

Go to:
Network Configuration:
    TCP Configuration: "aspen information section"
Location Name: aspen AE or whatever you want
        Host Name: Aspen AE title
Host IP Address: Aspen IP assigned by tech
Net mask: subnet mask assigned by tech
Router: router IP assigned by tech if necessary

    DICOM Config:
TCP Port: Aspen TCP port #
        AE Name: Aspen AE title

Press the "Add" soft key and the "Save" soft key, let it save. The machine will prompt a shutdown/restart. Press the power button, let it shut off completely, and then power the system on.

After boot-up, enter the "Setup" menu (top of keyboard, near middle "data pos" in blue)

Go to:
AEGIS: System Wide Functions
Location Name - verify the name of the network configuration in this box.

Mouse over "Define Printers", and use a trackball soft key to select.
Network B&W Printer: mouse over BW MO, and press trackball soft key - select network     printer name
…or
Network Color Printer: mouse over Color MO, and press trackball soft key - select     network printer name

Change custom options to how you want them.

Press the "prior menu" soft key.

Select "Define Servers", and use a trackball soft key to select.
Storage Server 1: mouse over "None" and press a trackball soft key - select DICOM     server

Exit out of the setups menu, Code + V + Test to access the CSR menu, go to "DICOM Configuration", and press the Echo Test soft key to see if the machine is able to contact and communicate with the DICOM server.

If you see a message that says "DICOMSERVER (your DICOM server name) available" everything’s set up and working properly.

If you see a message that says "Echo Test ... DICOMSERVER not available", which means we need to go back through some steps, and make sure everything’s entered correctly.

…or check the DICOM server, and the connections along the way to make sure everything’s synching up nicely.

Re: AEGIS, DICOM, and Networking Configurations

In addition to this: you will need to know if your system has DICOM Store Blk, and DICOM Store Bkgrnd. Please refer to the other topics on how to access the Configuration Report.

Adding on to what was posted above: Since the Aspen exports images/clips into a DICOM format you will need some way to read that information on a PC. There are a number of free DICOM programs online, one of which is DICOM Works. I don't use the program much, and the only one I've liked enough to buy was the Showcase Software suite.

Two ways of transferring the data that I know of. MO disk drives, and DICOM/ethernet through router or crossover cable to PC. If your system does NOT have DICOM, you will need to use the Magneto Optical disk drive in the Aspen to back-up and transfer studies from the hard drive to a Magneto Optical Disk. The Aspen only reads 128mb, or 256mb MO disks -- these can still be purchased, and I use a website: www(dot) totalmedia(dot)com

You will need a way to read the MO disk on your computer, and I believe Fuji still makes MO disk readers for the PC, usually in a USB enclosure that connects easily enough. Once thats all taken care of, you will then need some way to read the information on the MO disk, my choice as mentioned above is Showcase (www(dot)triltech(dot)com) software. It's a little pricy, but ten times less than a whole DICOM server or PACS install.

That's basically how you can transfer information from the Aspen to a PC, not sure about Mac.

Re: AEGIS, DICOM, and Networking Configurations

I use a very nice DICOM Pacs program that is free for registration. Located for download at  www(dot)k-pacs(dot)net. You can set it up as a PACS server and transfer DICOM images from the Aspen or any DICOM machine to it, view and store the images. It will also transfer to any DICOM Store device so it makes a great diagnostic tool in addition. You can burn CD's of any study and has a Viewer program included. They have a Paid version for under $1000 that works the same, but allows printing to a DICOM printer, such as Fuji, Kodak film printers, and can upload Modality Worklist. I've been very impressed with this program. I believe the latest version is ver 1.6

Re: AEGIS, DICOM, and Networking Configurations

I might not be the brightest guy in the world, since I can't seem to figure out the download. I've got a forum account with K-Pacs, but every time I try to download... I go to Free Tools, K-Pacs, and it just takes me back to the area where I can click on Free Tools again. It's like some evil loop-hole designed to make you think you can get something for nothing if you just keep clicking the link.

Is there a trick I'm missing?
