Topic: monitor on power up

First off, I can't believe a forum like this exists.  THANK YOU!

Sometimes the monitor on our sequoia 512 does not turn on when we power up the system. It only happens after the system has been running for a while (it's warm). And, I might be crazy, but holding the power button in for the perfect amount of time may (that's a big MAY) help it turn on. I'm not sure.

Ring any bells?

On a maybe related note, is there any way I can clean the system without tripping the lock? I have a gut feeling it is getting too hot.

Re: monitor on power up

First off, sorry for not replying sooner.

As for the issue, it sounds like the monitor is having an intermittent power problem. Could be the flyback, or the CRT itself, maybe a faulty capacitor. Or it could be an intermittent issue with the ultrasound system. I'll have to do a bit more research on the power flow chart.

In regards to cleaning, there are several things you can clean out first before opening up the side panel. I'm not sure if you checked out the other pages in the forum, but I'll post another shot of the fan tray that can be removed without tripping the system lock.

If you have an air compressor, or a vacuum you can clean that area out pretty well. There are also filters on the left and right sides of the system (back of the system, left and ride side panels -- there should be thumb sized holes and an oval/rectangular cutout, pull them out). They can get pretty filthy over the years so I would recommend either vacuuming or rinsing off (allow them to dry out for a while, of course -- its all plastic so it shouldn't rust or get corroded).

Also, the inside side panels can be removed IF your system has "Third Party Service" enabled in the Feature Control. To access your Feature Control, have the system on and press the "Setup" key at the top/middle of the keyboard. Use the trackball to scroll down to "Service UI" and press either of the kidney shaped trackball keys. It takes 10-20 seconds to load up, but once you're at a new menu, in the upper right there should be an icon with two Keys overlapping, and the words "Feature Control" underneath or above it. Trackball/mouse over it and press one of the kidney shaped trackball keys.

A new menu will appear with a small scroll bar on the right side. Click on the scroll bar a few times until it takes you towards the end of the feature control list. It's mostly alphabetical, so "Third" should be somewhere near the bottom. If it says "Permanent", great.. if it says "N"... theres your answer.

Usually though, you don't need to clean out the board area unless the fans/filters have become severely clogged.

Hope this helps.
